Endings in Disguise

By

In a lifetime, endings are very prominent. An end of an era, end of a phase, end of relations, end to moments. It’s usually saddening to think about endings. But as blue, as it sounds, let me say, terminations are thought-provoking, necessary, and, per se, beautiful.

Why would I call something so despairing beautiful? That’s because I’ve come to accept that the word ‘endings’ is very hypocritical. Whenever there’s an end to something, it’s a cue of fate to a new beginning. So the end is technically a new beginning. It’s genuinely beautiful to go through endings. Most of the time, it’s messy, disheartening, and honestly aching. But that’s the beauty of it! No matter how hurt we are in the near-end, it’s all worth it because the future holds so much more! So much happiness to out-do the regrets and the low-spirited moments. It’s just like rain. Days, weeks of pouring, gloominess pervading the air, but guess what, the end of rain brings sunshine and rainbows. That one moment when the sun shines through the window, and how automatically we smile. That one looks at the colorful crescent in the sky brings so much hope, and joy proving that endings can be beautiful too.

I know this doesn’t feel real because so many fail to see the charm of endings. But maybe it’s all about perspective in the moment, which I think needs broadening. It’s okay to feel nervous, down, and unfortunate about endings, but always know, it’s only for a fraction of your time in life. The more we accept that everything has an end, despite how much we want it to last forever, makes us stronger as individuals. Strong and realistic.

Some may disagree, saying that endings are not often, they’re not always happening, they’re not fate. They’re a choice. Well, romantically, emotionally, or technically, nothing is forever—the worst kind of an end is natural. But, as much as I hate to put it as is, it’s a passing of a life. Even in such an extreme full-stop, I’ll say it’s a beginning for people around to cherish the time. It again can be beautiful when you choose to remember the good, and make an ending into a beautiful, soon a beginning. It’s not always a choice because even a choice is fated to an extent.

It sure isn’t easy to believe that endings are a good thing; after all, in time, we may be blurred to see the good side, but eventually, you’re going to know that it was all for the best. It was a chapter that had to end for another to begin. Because in the book of life, there will be breaking chapter ends and warm ones, but it’s all a fated choice. A fated choice that makes us unique, strong, and us.

It’s okay to hold back while entering a beginning, but not for long. It’s an end for a reason. Remember that. It was meant to end even though you didn’t know, for the best of the future.

At last, even this piece had to end, so I’ll leave you to the thought. “We lose the precious sense that an end is only a beginning in disguise. Our story may have any number of endings, but its start is a particular choice we make today.”
